Folliculometry

Monitoring follicle maturation.

follikulometria

Folliculometry is an ultrasound diagnostic method that can be used to monitor

follicle maturation. The goal of folliculometry is to determine a suitable day for conception; it identifies the date of ovulation and the presence of menstrual cycle disorders, finds out whether artificial stimulation is needed, and monitors the development of the endometrium.

Folliculometry is one of the most effective ways to detect ovulation; it is recommended for women suffering from infertility or menstrual cycle disorders.

The procedure is no different from the ultrasound used in obstetrics and gynecology.

Goals of folliculometry:

  • assessing ovarian function and confirming ovulation;
  • calculating the exact days of ovulation for individual family planning;
  • when planning the sex of the future child (with later ovulation, conception of a boy is thought to be more likely);
  • choosing the best day to conceive a child;
  • planning conception of a child on specific days;
  • monitoring for multiple pregnancy (if twins or triplets have already been born in the family);
  • diagnosing cycle disorders;
  • in cases where there is no ovulation and it needs to be stimulated;
  • to assess the woman's individual hormonal balance;
  • monitoring treatment;
  • determining whether the phases of the menstrual cycle are complete.

Folliculometry is performed several times during one menstrual cycle. The timing is set by the attending doctor.

Folliculometry makes it possible to monitor the effectiveness of infertility treatment.
